Yellow Signs Highlight Open Gardens at Royal Norfolk Show

On many occasions when travelling one must have noticed a yellow arrow highlighting a nearby open garden. This year the National Garden Scheme in Norfolk will design their stand with one hundred yellow NGS arrows. The stand In the Norfolk and Norwich Horticultural tent will encourage visitors, garden enthusiasts and potential new private garden owners. There will also be a plasma screen featuring all the Norfolk open gardens during the remainder of the 2009 open garden season and a prize draw in aid of the National Gardens Scheme.

Stuart Clarke of The Old Cottage, Colby Corner (open July 5th 10 -5) is the volunteer coordinator of the Royal Norfolk Snow stand. Stuart said, ”The National Gardens Scheme are trying to raise the profile of the open gardens and the worthwhile charities that are supported. The yellow signs represent the brand of “The Yellow Book” the garden lover’s handbook, which features over 36000 gardens in England and Wales founded in 1927. The NGS has raised more than£25 million for charity in the last 10 years”.

“Each year the Norfolk NGS gain many new private gardens from visitors to the Royal Norfolk Show. However many people are unaware of what the yellow signs represent and the NGS. The Norfolk brochure and Norfolk gardens website have increased the profile. These both showcase the great horticultural product Norfolk has with many gardens, nurseries and award - winning designers. The brilliant NGS yellow signs will definitely stand out in the crowds at the Royal Show”.
